When Quiet Finds You — The Micro-Joys of a Snowfall Morning
I have a sign in my house that says, “We do loud.”
And most days, that’s true — life moves fast, schedules stack up, the world keeps spinning whether I’m ready or not.
But today… Today was different.
With the snow falling to record levels on December 2, the house felt still, in a way it hasn’t in months. The quiet you don’t expect. The quiet that finds you.
Warm coffee in my hands.
Charlie gave me that “you wanna play out there?” look.
The trees were covered in a clean coat of white, like the world had hit reset.
I’m not a snow person, but I love it when it falls like this, peaceful, soft, reminding me to breathe. I love running in this weather too, no music, just the sound of my breath and the crunch under my feet. Autopilot. Rhythm. Presence.
Workout canceled, record snow, maybe I needed the pause more than the reps.
As I sat there watching the flakes drift down, I realized I’d already won the morning:
• I woke up early
• I watched the snow fall
• I put up the tree
• I found gratitude before the day found me
Small micro-wins.
Small micro-joys.
And somehow… they shifted everything.
It’s December, I don’t know how we got here so fast, but it arrived quietly this year. And maybe that’s the invitation:
Slow down.
Notice more.
Make room for others.
Bring attention to the people who need it.
Because sometimes the smallest moments, the warm cup, the snowfall, the dog at your feet, are the ones that pull you back to yourself.
What tiny moment today brought you back into the present?
