Finding Momentum in the Middle of the Storm
Cold temperatures. More snow on the way. Not precisely the December start I asked for, but here we are.
We haven’t had snow like this in years. You can either accept it or move, and we all know I’m not moving unless I pack up the whole family. So instead, I sat with it… this fast-moving storm telling its own story.
And it made me notice something about myself.
For the past few years, my base pace on the treadmill hasn’t changed. Same number. Same rhythm. Same comfort zone. Stuck in what I call treadmill limbo, moving but not really going anywhere.
But storms?
They have a way of shaking your routine loose.
They remind you to bump the speed.
To reset the mindset.
To stop drifting and choose a direction again.
This morning, I looked outside and saw snow piled high, the world slowed down… and it hit me: Is this a micro-joy or a micro-win?
Maybe it’s both.
Micro-joy is the quiet moment, watching the snow fall, coffee warming your hands, the dog trying to convince you to play.
Maybe micro-win is the decision, choosing to show up anyway, to get out of bed when it’s cold, to push even when the treadmill is giving “no thanks” energy.
Storms, treadmills, snow days, they remind us we’re getting closer to a new year. And that means it’s time to adjust the pace, realign direction, and carry our purpose into what’s next.
Small wins.
Small joys.
Both matter more this month than ever.
